Telkom Held Chess Tournament, Telkom Open X

Bandung, June 9, 2008 – For the several times, Telkom held Chess Tournament called Telkom Open X. The Tournament was held from June 5 until June 10, 2008 at Telkom Learning and Educational Center Cafeteria, Bandung. The Tournament was attended by 340 chess player; 28 had international degree, 129 had national degree and 133 another had no degree yet. Telkom offered IDR 100 million to the winner.

Telkom Open X is one of the Telkom social responsibility program specialized in sports. Head of Referee Division, Indonesian Chess Union, Herman Kurniadi on his speech said that he appreciated Telkom to help increasing Indonesian Chess consistently.

The Tournament was also attended by great Indonesian chess players such as Grand Master (GM) Susanto Megantoro (West Java), GM Cerdas Barus (Jakarta), GM Ardiyansyah (Central Java) and GM Herman Suradireja (West Java). Besides, a chess player from Germany who lived in Bandung, Thomas Boeder, also took a part. In the same tournament one year ago, Thomas got National Master degree. The tournament held as a player exercise too, before participating in The 17th National Sports Competition at East Kalimantan.
