TELKOM Go Green succeeding Green Hope 2009

Share |

Reforestation mission of Divre I Sumatra applied in the form of the program ‘Telkom Go Green’ was again launched in January by its participation in the success of the ‘Green Hope 2009 ‘ initiated by PT Amansejati Propertindo at Kampung Tua Belian, Batam (15/2).

’Go Green 2009’ at Kampung Tua Belian was attended by Chairman of DPRD of the Province of Riau Islands, H Nursyafriadi, Pemko Batam represented by Assistant II General Administration, Maaz Ismail, Badan Otorita Batam represented by Section Head of Pertamanan Kota of Directorate of Gardening and Esthetics of Otorita Batam, Hadjad Widagdo, Muspida Batam, and the students of several schools in Batam. Also attended Dra. Siti Aini Hanum, MA, Deputy Assistant of Education and Environment Communication Affairs of the Ministry of Environment in Jakarta.

GM Kandatel, Rikep Mulyanta, in his speech in front of the stakeholders at Batam, described 7 pillars as the focus of Telkom in the field of Citizenship Social Responsibility (CSR), a program of social responsibility to the community that has grown together with it. The seven pillars mentioned are among others, Telkom program in the field of Partnership, Health, Education, Culture & Civility, Disaster & Rescue, Public Service and Environment. Particularly in the Environment program in Batam, Telkom has actively planted more than 6,000 trees to succeed Batam Green & Clean at several locations since 2008.

Selection of Telkom as partner of Green Hope 2009 is proper as Telkom has pioneered in Telkom Go Green and also Telkom Kandatel Rikep appointed as the Cleanest I BUMN for the category of government office of Batam Municipal Level in 2007. Performance achievement in the form of this Reward Charter was awarded by Mayor of Batam on Telkom participation and care in realizing City of Batam which is Clean, Beautiful and Green.

This Telkom CSR Program has attracted Chairman of DPRD Kepri. Nursyafriadi who is also an activist of environment saying that he has paid attention to Telkom’s engagement in making ‘green’ of Batam city since 2 years ago. “Thanks to Telkom for saving the environment of Batam city ,” he said. Therefore, it is expected there are other BUMN and private sectors to also participate in creating Batam Green and Clean like Telkom, he added.

Green Hope 2009 is a campaign of environment held by State Ministry of Indonesia’s Environment to make the community realize that the nature and its environment have been threatened due to the change of environment and climate caused by illegal logging and lack of flood control. The damage which is getting worse also admitted by Hadjad. He also expected the change of behavior of the community that had to care to the environment so that the pollution and damage would not be getting worse.

Meanwhile, Siti Aini Hanum spoke that this ‘go green’ activity needed to be made consistently. Hoping that the ‘Green Hope 2009’ activity will support the community in Batam city that has to care and realize to always maintain the environment together.
Ainun’s expectation is similar to that of Nursyafriadi and Maaz Ismail that this activity is really able to inspire other community to give care to the environment although only planting 1 tree in the surroundings to make ‘Batam Green and Clean’.
