Pasuruan, January 11, 2010 - Heavy rain which flushed from noon until Saturday night, 9 January 2010 made the town square and 5 districts in Pasuruan submerged in floods. Flooding occurs due to so many garbages that had accumulated along Gembong river and it made the water spilling into the streets and inundating villages in 5 districts. Five of them were Andaan, Rembang, Pohjentrek, Kraton and Bangil Distric.
This flooding caused automatic telephone exchange or sentral telepon otomat (STO)’s wall collapsed . It also caused 5000 from 7000 units of phone connection did not work from 9 pm. TELKOM’s employees from Telecommunication Infrastructure Division, Access Division and TELKOM Flexi (Fixed Wireless) Division took some actions to repair telecommunication connection immediately. Less than 24 hours later on Sunday, 10 January 2010, 2:26 pm, STO Bangil was fixed and the telecommunication services can be used by customers.
3 people became the victims of the disaster. Flooding also stopped many private and government offices activities. Schools had been closed because almost all of the building in Pasuruan was inundated by flood.
