Jakarta, January 6, 2011 – In response to some news in the mass media about internet service installation by PT. Telekomunikasi Indonesia Tbk (Telkom) to RT and RW ( Resident Community ) in the City of Surabaya, Eddy Kurnia, Head of Corporate Communication and Affair Telkom, conveys that the program is the Municipal Government program of Surabaya which is very positive to improve public service through ICT in the Municipal Government environment. Telkom has got this work by bid so that it has been through the governance and compliance process based on applicable regulations.
To avoid misinterpretation from the community, below is the explanation as required:
• This work is an “installation” of internet connection to RT and RW in the City of Surabaya, not “supply of modem”. This work contract duration is six months starting July 19, 2011 up to December 31, 2011 with the cost at Rp 110,000,- per node per month with installation contract amount at Rp 6.9 billions. Maintenance period is one month ending on August 19, 2011 for 10,888 nodes.
• Due to many constraints in the field, particularly in the implementation of installation and readiness of RT and RW to utilize the internet network, the time period agreed before, that is, during one month is considered insufficient. Municipal Government of Surabaya then agrees the one-month period extension so that the time limit of installation completion will be on September 19, 2011.
• Up to the dead line of September 19, 2011, Internet successfully installed at 6,009 nodes. Generally, constraint of internet connection installation to RT and RW as follows: Having used Speedy 5 %, Not ready yet 38 %, Vacant House 20%, Not having computer 12 %, Transferred 12 % and other reasons 13 %.
• Total payment by Municipal Government of Surabaya to Telkom is only for installed internet connection, that is, 6,009 nodes or at Rp 2.4 billions. Not Rp 6.9 billions as stated in the media.
It is necessary to convey that Telkom fully supports the realization of Surabaya Cyber City and community smart program through ICT-based information access provision to RT and RW in Surabaya. Now the broadband access in Indonesia is still very low, particularly in Surabaya around 1.6% while the government target nationwide in 2014 is 30%. Telkom is convinced that facility for the community to access internet will improve participation of the community to development programs in Surabaya. As an information, partnership relation between Telkom and Surabaya Municipal Government is running good, it is sure that Surabaya will be one of the developed city in Indonesia.
